Ask The Trainer: “My Sister In Law Hates My Dog!”

It’s always difficult when a guest doesn’t love animals the way that you do. We want our guests to feel welcome and comfortable in our homes, but on the other hand, we shouldn’t have to shut members of our family away just to make our guests more comfortable.

After all, if your sister-in-law hated children and you had kids, would you shut them away? So it is okay to resent being asked to do the same with your beloved pet.

Some people simply aren’t able to shut their dog in a room when guests come over – Dogs with separation problems may bark disruptively or cause damage in the room. Even well adjusted dogs may simply assume that you’ve made a…

The silent hunter

Wonderful Article

“Those who have never seen a leopard under favourable conditions in his natural surroundings can have no conception of the grace of movement, and beauty of colouring, of this the most graceful and the most beautiful of all animals in our Indian jungles.”  (Jim Corbett. 1944)

Rosie and Bella

Rosie and Bella

At last Whitney and I graduated from puppy obedience class.

It’s not like “real” school where it’s expected that the Teacher will teach, and parents don’t need to help with homework or practice! ( joking of course).Next is review training!.

Don’t ever get two siblings! You are in a constant struggle between their sibling and you as the leader of the pack.

Lots of separation anxiety we need to work on, but overall delighted they are part of the family.

More photos to come!

Footsteps in Europe

Life is simple on the Camino.  It’s all about the walk.  We usually walk for 8  hours each day.   We get out of bed early to walk before the sun gets hot.  We eat a breakfast after an hour on the trail, and then we eat a second breakfast around ten.  An empty belly, we have found, gives the legs and feet more room for complaint and allows the mind to become too preoccupied with the distance left to go.

We walk.  We talk.  We find new people who will walk and talk with us.  There are always a couple of people who are walking the same distance as us each day.  Yesterday, as we passed a Olympic-sized swimming pool, we noticed two men swimming alone.   They waved frantically.  “Join us,” they yelled.   We waved and moved on.  Later they caught up.  We found out they were Spaniards…
